New Delhi: The Sanchar Saathi Mobile App, launched by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has surpassed 50 lakh downloads within just six months, underscoring its growing role in telecom security and citizen empowerment.

Available in English, Hindi, and 21 regional languages, the app makes it easy for users to report suspicious calls and SMS directly from their call and SMS logs in just a few taps.

Strong Impact in Fighting Telecom Misuse

Since the inception of the Sanchar Saathi initiative, the platform has:

  • Recovered over 5.35 lakh lost or stolen mobile phones.
  • Disconnected more than 1 crore unauthorized mobile connections.
  • Deactivated over 29 lakh numbers flagged through the Chakshu feature.
  • Attracted 16.7 crore visits to the Sanchar Saathi portal.

The DoT has also implemented the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI), which helps financial institutions identify and act against mobile numbers linked to high-risk transactions.

Using FRI data, 34 financial institutions have frozen 10.02 lakh bank accounts/payment wallets and imposed debit/credit restrictions on 3.05 lakh accounts.

The Sanchar Saathi Mobile App, launched on 17th January 2025, offers:
  • Chakshu: Quick reporting of suspected fraudulent calls/SMS from call logs.
  • Know Mobile Connections: View all mobile numbers registered in your name.
  • Block Lost/Stolen Devices: Lock and trace devices instantly.
  • Check Handset Genuineness: Verify a handset before purchase.

DoT emphasises that the app is an example of Jan Bhagidari, where citizen reports play a pivotal role in preventing cybercrime and financial fraud through misuse of telecom infrastructure.

The Sanchar Saathi Mobile App is available for download on Android and iOS.
